Scenario “C”

Can you believe the school board agreed to sell LEBard?

This evening, I attended the “vote night” from the board member meeting, this was on Feb 19th. The fate of the schools was in the hands of the five board members. The members decided on senario “C” located here which includes the sale of LeBard school(where the school district office is currently). Basically, what affects me personally is my children. We play Seaview Little League baseball at LeBard and if Seaview Little League were to go away, that would be detrimental. What I don’t understand is that the president of the school board(Celia Jaffe) said “if we sell LeBard, it wouldn’t even come close to covering the costs of what we need”. But how the hell can they decide to sell it if she said a statement like that? I don’t get it! Did she mean “if we LEASE LeBard, it wouldn’t even come close to covering the costs of what we need”???

I guess on a positive note, Brian E. Rechsteiner, while making his vote, said that he needs the residents of the community to help them to get the city of Huntington Beach to purchase Lebard school. I’m not sure what needs to be done, but we’ll need to group together for this. It seems as if we have to now, jump on board with the school board to help them get the city to purchase LeBard. Now we are on their side?

After speaking with Mike Mailman(Seaview Little League President) out front of the meeting tonight, he talked to me about forming a committee and a board of “Seaview Little League Parents” to assist in helping the Seaview Board Members to work with the School board in getting the city of Huntington Beach to purchase LeBard. Standy By for more to come.

Board to Vote Tuesday, February 19th!

School Board  is Scheduled to Vote This Tuesday, February 19th!

The School Board of the Huntington Beach City School District is scheduled to vote Tuesday, February 19th, regarding what to do with our community’s 4 school sites.  This meeting will be at 7:00 pm, at the District Office (20451 Craimer Lane, HB).

The School Board will be voting on the following:

1) Whether to begin negotiations with Brethren on leasing Gisler and with HCS on leasing Burke.

2) The sale of the LeBard school site.

3) To hold off on any action, at this time, regarding the Kettler school site.

The LeBard school site is the current location for the Seaview Little League fields.  Over 600 children participate in Seaview Little League.  The LeBard school site could be leased for at least $360,000 a year.

As a result of the School Board’s choice to not do anything with Kettler, since it was closed, the District has already lost approximately $825,000 in possible lease income.   In light of the fact that the school district is anticipating a budget cut of $2.5 million in State funding, and may not give teachers pay raises, it is imperative that the School Board determine what they are going to do with the Kettler school site as soon as possible.  The Kettler school site could be used for the District Office (since is has recently modernized) or it could be leased out for at least $360,000 a year.

Please help us encourage the School Board to do the following:

Now is the time to make sure the School Board knows that the Community is supportive of negotiating leases for both the Burke (HCS) and Gisler (Brethren) school sites.

It is also important to let the School Board know that the Community wants the District to negotiate in good faith, keeping in mind that both schools have been good tenants, and that other school districts (e.g. Ocean View) are willing to lease to these schools (for less than the current leases with HBCSD) if HBCSD is not willing to offer lease terms that are a ” Win-Win” for both HBCSD and the 2 tenants.

If the School Board leases out 3 of the 4 school sites (Burke, Gisler and Kettler or LeBard) and then uses the 4th site for the District Office, the District will earn a minimum of $1.3 million a year in lease income, which will increase with each passing year, for years to come!

Please send an email to the School Board and let them know your position on these issues. The email address for the School Board is:

Board@hbcsd.k12.ca.us

Also, please attend the meeting on Tuesday the 19th, and “Speak Out”, before it is too late!  Even if you do not feel comfortable speaking in public, just your presence at this meeting will let the School Board know that the Community is interested and concerned about what happens to these school sites.

The agenda for the School Board meeting on the 19th is attached.

Thank You for YOUR support of OUR Community!

I know, John. I’ll make a new post replying to your post here. I was amazed at the number of residents with strong feelings. At a recent meeting that I attended, the residents rose up and voiced strong feelings. All of the feelings were in favor of “leases” the schools and NOT selling them. For me personally, the Little League and AYSO are the big issue since my kids go to Eader Elementary. Seaview Little League and AYSO fields being abolished just won’t due!! HELLO PEOPLE!

Mike MailmanMike Mailman(Seaview Little League president) brought 50+ players up when he spoke. Mike, you did a GREAT job voicing your opinion on losing Seaview. You brought chills to my spine. You spoke with one voice for all of us long term Seaview parents who didn’t speak. We are in this for the long haul so let’s stay together

John Gray (AYSO Division 56 Commissioner) also brought up some good points on the fact that the sale of the schools is a “TERRIBLE BUSINESS IDEA” and that the market is down right now. Thanks JOHN!

There were possiblly 150-200 residents at the Feb 5th study group so they shouldn’t say that they haven’t heard from enough residents when there were that many attending and www.SaveHBcommunity.com has 22o0+ signatures. The residents varied from Huntington Christian Parents to Seaview Little League coaches and parents.

Celia JaffeWhen I heard Celia Jaffe (President of the school board) speak, her opinion seemed to be that she was “impatient” with the entire process. That was my feeling I got.
Brian E. Rechsteiner When Brian E. Rechsteiner spoke, he really had done his homework on this subject of the schools. He had a “Handout” for the board with many calculations of how much the city would receive if Brethren Christian’s commitment to lease the property of X number (I don’t remember how long they said) of years, with taking in to consideration 6% raises and inflation, that the dollar amount the city would receive at the end of the lease. GOOD WORK!

Will You Join Us in Working Together to Save Some of Huntington Beach’s Irreplaceable Community Resource?

The School Board of the Huntington Beach City School District has put out a Request For Proposals (RFP) on 4 school properties (Burke Elementary, Gisler Intermediate, Kettler Elementary and LeBard Elementary). The buildings on these properties are Used by Various Community Organizations (e.g. the Girls Scouts, Boys Scouts, etc.) and the fields are used by community sports organizations like AYSO Soccer (over 1,600 Children) Little League, and Girls’ Softball Teams.

This blog is for YOU PEOPLE to speak your mind! Let the local community know exactly how you feel on the above subject! Give us facts and feelings directly related to it.

Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Peace!

The School Board of the Huntington Beach City School District is scheduled, in approximately 2 weeks,  to vote on what will happen with 4 of our community’s school sites.

This coming Tuesday, February 5th, at 5:30 pm, at the District Office, the School Board will be holding a Study Session to discuss possible scenarios on what to do with the 4 school sites.  Four scenarios that have been brought up so far by the School Board are:

Scenario A
Move Huntington Christian to Kettler and renew their lease
Sale of Burke
Sale of LeBard (District Office)
Renew lease of Gisler (Brethren Christian)

Scenario B
Sale of Gisler (Brethren Christian’s campus)
Lease LeBard
Lease Kettler
Renew Lease of Burke (Huntington Christian)

Scenario C
Sale of LeBard (District Office)
Lease Kettler
Renew Lease of Burke (Huntington Christian)
Renew Lease of Gisler (Brethren Christian)

Scenario D
Sale of LeBard to City of Huntington Beach
Renew Lease of Burke (Huntington Christian)
Renew Lease of Gisler (Brethren Christian)
Move District Office to Kettler or Lease Kettler

If the School Board votes to Lease 3 of the 4 school sites and uses the 4th for the District office, the School District could receive a minimum of $1.3 million a year in lease income, for years to come!

Attend the meeting this Tuesday and “Speak Out”, before it is too late!  Even if you do not feel comfortable speaking in public, just your presence at this meeting will let the School Board know that the Community is interested and concerned about what happens to these school sites.
